Glasstech Control Systems and Obsolescence

Ref: 17
Rev. Date: Nov-16-1998

With the advance of time and technology, the older FlexOS©based furnace control systems are approaching obsolescence. Some of these systems can no longer be fully supported by Glasstech or our suppliers. FlexOS©based systems earlier than version 8, and some hardware components fall into this category.

Problems include, but may not be limited to, MFM hard disk drives that are no longer in production, and EGA video systems that are no longer in production, and the inability to make the system fully year 2000 compliant. Upgraded replacement systems are available through Glasstech’s Aftermarket Sales Department. Depending on the individual system, a partial or complete replacement may be required. Contact Glasstech’s Aftermarket Sales Department for a retrofit quotation for specific furnaces.

As long as a current system continues to operate, it will not need replacement. Certain components may continue to be available as spare parts. Contact Glasstech’s Spare Parts Department for availability, price, and delivery of control system components.

Due to the scarcity and long lead times of some components, it is recommended to retrofit the control system to components that can be supported, and maintain a stock of spare components on-site. This will minimize the probability of extended downtime due to any component failures.
